Goals for Learning
The Skagit Symphony education program uses goals from the Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) for Music. This is a very important part of this program, and is valuable not only to the music staff as they prepare their students for the concert, but for classroom teachers and building administrators to see the value of this extraordinary educational opportunity.
Selected Washington State Music EALRs for the Skagit Symphony program:
1. THE STUDENT UNDERSTANDS ARTS CONCEPTS AND VOCABULARY
1.1 Analyzes performances using arts concepts and vocabulary.
1.3 Understands genres and styles from various artists, cultures and times.
2. THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES THINKING SKILLS USING ARTISTIC PROCESSES OF
RESPONDING IN MUSIC.
2.3 Student applies a responding process to an arts presentation of
music:*engages the senses actively and purposefully
*describes what is seen, felt and heard
*analyzes the use and organization of elements, principles, foundations, skills and techniques
*interprets meaning evaluated and justifies using supportive
criteria
4. THE STUDENT MAKES CONNECTIONS WITHIN AND ACROSS THE ARTS TO OTHER
DISCIPLINES, LIFE, CULTURES, AND WORK
4.2 demonstrates and analyzes the connections among the arts and other content areas
4.4 Understands how the arts influence and reflect culture/civilization, place and time.
