A major Skagit Valley community effort led to a very successful 12th Annual Smelt Run on Saturday Feb. 28th, 2009. The Skagit Symphony hosted an officially timed 5.0 and 10.0 Kilometer run which attracted over 400 runners of all ages to the La Conner area on a cool but dry day. Some fast times were established for the course. Proceeds from the run enabled the Skagit Symphony to set aside over $5000 to underwrite the symphony’s youth programs planned for Jan 2010.
The Smelt Run committee wishes to say a big thank you to all the runners and families who participated.
We are also grateful for the cooperation of the La Conner School District, the Skagit County Sheriff's Office, the Swinomish Tribal Police, the Town of La Conner, the La Conner Rotary and the enthusiastic, hard working student volunteers who helped keep the event safe and enjoyable. This special La Conner team spirit helped make the 12th annual Smelt Run the most successful ever!
A special thank you is also directed to all the Sponsors (Erin Baker's Breakfast Cookies, Evergreen Physical Therapy, Haggen Food & Pharmacy, John F. Whims - Nationwide Insurance Agency, Mister T's Awards & Embroidery, Northwest Chiropractic Clinic, Northwest Physical Therapy, Samish Point by the Bay Vacation Rental and Skagit County Tourism Funding) who came forward this year to help underwrite some of the expenses incurred to produce this event.
The Skagit Symphony Smelt Run committee would like to compliment and thank all those associated with the race and we look forward to an even better race next year.
