Family Concert — Sunday, January 27, 13:30 pm ⁄ 2 pm, McIntyre Hall
A "sold out" performance for the past three years, these January concerts are FREE for children and are designed with our youngest listeners (age 3 and above) in mind.
The Family Concert’s success is due in part to an on–going collaboration with the Children’s Museum of Skagit County, which provides pre– and post–concert music-based activities for the children.
The repertoire itself included Mendelssohn’s overture about Fingal’s Cave, off the coast of Scotland; Mozart’s First Symphony, which he wrote at the age of 8; a set of five pieces depicting children’s games by Bizet; and Smetana’s musical description of the Moldau River in his Czechoslovakian homeland. Throughout the performance Maestro Shakarian encourages the children to use their imagination as they experience the music.
Tickets for the Family Concerts are available through McIntyre Hall box office by calling 866.624.6897 or online at www.McIntyreHall.org. Adults &10, Children FREE!
School Concert
The Skagit Symphony is currently developing a “school concert” program for local school children for our 2007-08 Season. Primary school children from our surrounding area will be invited to attend a symphony performance at McIntyre Hall.
The program will have several components including a “Classroom Kit” with EALR appropriate activities to prepare the students for their concert performance. For more information about our “school concert” please contact Linda Alvarado at execdir@skagitsymphony.com
Skagit Valley College Program
Included as part of the college’s curriculum, the Skagit Symphony allows music students to receive course credits for participating with the orchestra. Adult orchestra members serve as role models and mentors to these student musicians.
Young Soloist Concert
Each year, our Young Soloist Concert features a talented young musician from our region. The young artist rehearses and performs as a featured soloist with the orchestra. Our 2008 young soloist is Ms. Amy Buckingham with the cello.
