From Budapest to Istanbul

Our journey draws to a close with music inspired by this magical region. We'll take you across the Steppes of Central Asia, safely past a Sabre Dance, and on toward the Far East. Helping us on our way, pianist Jeremy DesChane performs Dohnanyi's seldom-heard masterpiece, Variations on a Nursery Song.

Jeremy DesChane

Jeremy DesChane has given plentiful solo, concerto, and chamber music performances throughout the Pacific Northwest, New York, and beyond, performing in a variety of venues including Nordstrom Hall and Kilbourn Hall. As a chamber musician he has performed in ensembles such as Philharmonia Northwest and the Seattle Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with numerous choral groups including the Seattle Girls Choir and Northwest Boychoir and has served as a staff accompanist at the University of Washington School of Music.

Jeremy has given award-winning performances of solo works by Couperin, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Ligeti, winning contests such as the MTNA Washington State Steinway and Sons Young Artists Piano Competition. He was named one of three concerto competition finalists at the internationally acclaimed Eastman School of Music and also was a national chamber music competition prizewinner.

Born in the rural Pacific Northwest, Jeremy made his orchestra debut with the Whatcom Symphony and was later invited to play in a masterclass for Leon Fleisher. He went on to study with Rebecca Penneys at the Eastman School of Music and with John Pickett at Central Washington University.
