Anacortes Music Project Overture Strings Camp
August 17-26, 2026

Do you have a budding musician at home? Anacortes Music Project (AMP) has the camp for you! Overture Strings camp is a collaboration between Skagit Symphony and AMP, teaching a fun-filled intro to violin, viola, or cello. No prior music education is required! Join us for this half-day camp from 9am-12pm featuring group classes, games, snacks, guest performances, and a concert at the end of the week. This week-long camp is led by experienced teachers and local musicians, along with other guests and musicians from Skagit Symphony! AMP’s Overture Strings Camp is supported by the Barbara Baker - Strings for the Future Endowment and the Skagit Symphony.

Skagit Youth String Ensembles
with Barb Hunter

Young string-playing musicians are invited to participate in the Skagit Junior Strings and Skagit Advanced Chamber Strings ensembles. These groups offer an opportunity for young musicians to learn more about playing ensemble music. Players will have skill-enhancing and enriching rehearsal and performance experiences and will learn how to immerse themselves in the fun and beauty of expression through music. The ensembles will have performing opportunities in the community several times throughout the year.

Skagit Junior Strings is tailored to violin, viola, and cello players of beginner, advanced beginner, and intermediate levels ages 7 and up. Beginner players should have a working knowledge of their instrument and reading simple music notation. Skagit Advanced Chamber Strings (by invitation only) is tailored to advanced players who have had at least several years of private lessons and/or experience playing in ensembles. Skagit Area Libraries (need photo)

Experience an eight-week introduction to reading music, music theory, and violin at Skagit area Libraries. These free classes are open to learners ages 9 and up. Participants will learn beginner music and violin skills from Skagit Symphony musicians - no prior music experience required. Violins are available for check-out to registered students through the generosity of the Skagit Symphony, or you may bring your own.

Skagit Symphony’s School and Family Concerts (need photo)

We are proud to carry on our annual tradition of invitation only, School Concerts that provide a delightful musical program for over 1700 local 5th-grade students at no cost to the school districts. We then encore this same program for our Family Concert, with our Children’s Music Fair beforehand to give local youth the opportunity to have hands-on experiences! Attendees participate in the instrument petting zoo, the Children’s Museum’s crafts, and “Meet the Musicians.” At the heart of our Music Education Program, these concerts introduce young people to the instruments and music of an orchestra. Our Music Education Committee provides program notes, rich and engaging resources for teachers, students, parents, and learners of any age on our Education webpages.
